Why HTML 5
Advancements in IT industry happen in the blink of an eye! If you don’t keep up you are gone. So what makes HTML5 so user oriented and effective. I’ll enlist and put forth some of the features which makes it the need of hour.
The earlier version of HTML had a long complicated way of using doctype. But with new HTML5 all you need to do is just mention <!DOCTYPE html> and there you are. That simple it is in HTML5. Although its not compulsory to mention doctype in new version but for people using old browser it helps avoiding glitches.
Use of <small> tag
Previously the use of <small> tag was to display subheadings or particularly ones which were of less significance but required just the little attention. However come the HTML5 and <small> tag now refers to small print.
Dilemma of Quote
How many of us feel agitated or lazy to provide the closing tag at the end of any tag. Well if you do belong to that category then HTML5 is just what doctor ordered for you. You don’t have any compulsion to end the tag. This is how it will work-
<p class=example id=randomid> Demonstration of HTML5.
But of course those who still like the feel of having everything structured can stick with quotes. I shall better leave that decision with you folks!
Luxury of Content Editing
Isn’t it more useful when we have the luxury of changing the contents at our will or as per the changing circumstances. Well then here it is the <contenteditable> tag. As the name goes you can edit any text contained within the element and also it applies to its children. All you need to do is mention contenteditable=”true”.
Bye bye semantics for header and footer
What if I tell you that you don’t need to mention the <div> tag and div id while placing header and footer? Yes all thanks to HTML5 for coming to our rescue. Simple opening and closing tag with header and footer mention are enough to get the work done just like your normal <p> tag. Or as you learned the dilemma to quote or not quote. A little demonstration <header> … </header>
The hassle of having the need to depend on third party vendors in HTML5 is eliminated. It comes with pre-included support for audio. You can use the <audio> tag and also have further controls for playback. The only problem being here is that of not many browsers support the new feature so you need to make sure your browser is updated.
Same as audio we are blessed with the luxury of video usage with HTML5. A simple <video> offers us the forward and backward compatibility options. Chrome is the best browser as it supports all the modern modifications and is secured against vulnerabilities and offers robust features.
Imagine you given the particular channel to watch without the option of remote? It will all be useless unless you have the control. Same goes with the control regarding audio and video in HTML5. You can forward and backward as per your wish with simpler and effective control mechanism. Here is what you will need to write <video preload controls>.
Often we are designing grading system for various purposes to measure the productivity. This is where the range sliders are of immense use. The demonstration for the same is as follows: <input type=”range”>. We can use values like min, max, etc.
